bullying is a form of abuse. it consists of three basic types of abuse - emotional, verbal and physical. bullying can be defined in many different ways. it can occur in any situation in which human beings interact with each other. this includes school, church, family, work, home and neighborhoods. bullying is also even a common push factor in migration. it can exist between social groups as well as social classes. bullying behavior may include name calling, verbal or written abuse, exclusion from activities, exclusion from social situations, physical abuse, or coercion. bullies may behave this way to be perceived as popular or tough or to get attention. they may also bully out of jealousy or be acting out because they themselves are bullied.
EFFECTS;
the effects of bullying can be serious and even fatal. there is a strong link between bullying and suicide.
the facts.
- every 7 minutes, a child is bullied.
- 1 out of every 10 students who have dropped out of high school, have because of bullying.
- those who are bullied are 5x's more likely to be depressed & far more likely to be suicidal.
- 6 out of 10 american teens witness bullying at least once a day.
- about 160,000 children miss school everyday out of fear of attack by other students.
