First Robotics, founded by Dean Kamen in 1989, started as a small competition between two schools to see who could build the better robot, now it is a large organizaition of hundreds of schools, and differant competitions, all in the goal of inspiring young students to become interested in the feilds of robotics and computer science by showing them that it is not impossible or difficult to do something worthwhile in technical science. In addition First also has a schalorship program so that when someone is truely skilled, they can be recognized for it and given an education.

I don't think that I would be in the same place that I am today without First. before First Robotics I had a completely differant plan for my future than I do today, it strangely enough had almost nothing to do with math, logic, or computers (my only strong suits) and went into a much more people oriented career, with less openings. That is why I am proud to have participated in it and was pointed tward a more tech oriented life style.
